Qualifications and assessment
For appointments to professor, the following shall form the assessment criteria:
- a very high level of research, teaching, administrative and other expertise that is of value in view of the subject matter of the post and the duties that it will involve, as well as the personal skills in general that are important for successfully carrying out the duties
- a very high level of research qualifications including a very good national and international standing as a researcher
- a very high level of teaching expertise which involves a very good ability to conduct, develop and lead teaching and other educational activities on different levels and using a variety of teaching methods
- a good ability to supervise doctoral students to achieve a PhD
- a good ability to engage with wider society and communicate his or her activities
- a good general ability to lead and develop activities.
- a doctoral degree in a subject within the humanities or social sciences,
- a strong research profile in digital cultures with emphasis on at least one of the following fields: aesthetic perspectives, information and communication science perspectives or sociocultural and societal perspectives. Particular importance is attributed to a demonstrated ability and ambition to develop the research field, nationally and internationally,
- good experience of research leadership and documented experience of obtaining external research funding in competition,
- good ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment and documented experience of collaborating with other disciplines, preferably with one or several of the subjects represented at the department.

The Joint Faculties of the Humanities and Theology have eight departments and carries out large and varied work within research and education with the purpose to understand people as cultural and social beings. The faculties have some 700 employees and around 4000 students.
The Department of Arts and Cultural Sciences at Lund University is a diverse department, comprised of thirteen areas of study and research. It employs over 80 people and enrolls annually about 1500 students.
Lund University invites applications for a permanent position as professor of digital cultures (full time) with an emphasis on at least one of the following fields: aesthetic perspectives, information and communication science perspectives or sociocultural and societal perspectives.
The position is located at the Division of ALM and Digital Cultures. Digital cultures is a field of education and research dedicated to the study of historical and current digital phenomena and change processes by applying a cultural science and critical perspective to digital everyday culture, digital media and the digitisation of culture and society. The subject constitutes an important element in the departmental environment and engages teaching staff and researchers from several divisions.
The professor is to participate actively in all parts of the division’s activities and to contribute to departmental work. The main work duty is to lead and develop research into digital cultures but also to teach on the division’s degree programmes. Teaching may also occur in adjacent subjects. Besides lectures and seminars, the teaching assignment also includes responsibility for courses, course development, course administration and supervision of degree projects. In addition, supervision of doctoral students and development work within the subject are also included in the position.
The ability to speak and write in academic English is a requirement from the start of employment. The majority of teaching takes place in Swedish, however, which is why the successful candidate must be able to write, read and speak a Scandinavian language within two years of entering the position.
A person who has demonstrated both research and teaching expertise shall be qualified for employment as a professor. The assessment criteria for appointment as a professor shall be the degree of the expertise required as a qualification for employment. For appointment as a professor there is a requirement for training in teaching and learning in higher education amounting to at least five weeks or that equivalent knowledge has been acquired in some other way.
In the assessment, equal consideration is given to teaching expertise and research expertise.

The Academic Appointments Board normally selects a shortlist of applicants. This selection can be done in one or several steps and if needed with the help of external experts. The applicants who are selected for external assessment may be invited to submit physical copies of the papers that they wish to submit for expert assessment within 14 days.
